This piece started it all. I wanted to create a piece that had the beautiful colors and textures of wood fired pottery without the connotation of a functional object. I wanted to excentuate the role of the kiln and reduce the impact of the craft of pottery on my work. I wanted my work to appeal to a larger audience to expose them to the extraordinary beauty that results in the firing of clay in a wood fired kiln.
